An employment history statement will confirm for which employers the candidate was employed, and whether they received Jobseeker’s Allowance during a specific tax year.
The statement is requested from HM Revenue and Customs.
Client scenarios for use.
- The candidate struggles to find documentation that proves employment
- The candidate cannot remember periods of employment (dates, etc.)
- This may be useful to prove periods of self-employment
- Verifile could not verify a candidate’s employment history, and you should send the following instructions to them:
To request an employment history statement, the candidate needs to know:
- their date of birth
- their National Insurance Number (NINO)
- their address
- what tax year they need to request an employment history statement for
- What employers they worked for during this tax year
They should call 0300 200 3300 with their National Insurance Number.
When connected to an advisor, they need to request an employment history statement for the tax year in question.
If they are asked why they need a statement, they should explain that their new employer requires confirmation of their employment during this tax year.
HM Revenue & Customs will post the employment history statement to them, normally within 14 working days.
