As part of the screening process, candidates may be asked to provide documents that help confirm their address history—especially if a standard record (such as the edited electoral register) isn’t available.
Below is a list of example documents that may help support the proof of address.
Please keep in mind:

Examples of documents they may be able to provide
These examples should be recent, clearly show the name and address of the recipient, and be issued by a recognised organisation.
Household or Local Authority Documents
Council tax or rates bill
Tenancy agreement from a local authority or housing association
Confirmation of tenancy from a private letting agency (must be an established agency)
Household Bills (Where a Credit Check Is Normally Required)
Gas, electricity, or water bill
Landline telephone or broadband bill
Cable or satellite TV bill
Tip: These documents usually need to be from the last 3 months if they relate to their current address.
Financial Statements
Bank, building society, or credit card statement
Recent mortgage statement
Official Letters
Letter from a solicitor confirming residence
Benefits-related correspondence
HM Revenue & Customs documentation
Home, motor, or life insurance policy schedule
Driving licence showing their current address (full or provisional, depending on age)
Employment or Armed Forces documentation
An employer-issued letter or document that includes their home address
Confirmation of address status issued by armed forces authorities
If they are or were a student
If standard proof of address isn’t available and they are in (or recently left) full-time education, they may be able to provide:
A university or college letter confirming their enrolment or current address
A Student Loan Company or Local Education Authority (LEA/SAAS) letter
A letter of acceptance from a recognised UK university or college
Documentation linking their accommodation to the university or college (e.g., student halls confirmations)
Official correspondence regarding tuition fees or the student account
Confirmation of residence at a parent or guardian’s address, if appropriate
Documents that Cannot be accepted as proof of address
To avoid delays, please note that the following items cannot be used as proof of residency:
Mobile phone bills
NHS cards
TV licence documentation
Pet insurance
Private tenancy agreements issued informally (e.g., non-commercial landlords)
