What steps can I take to verify a candidate's identity for a DBS check if their name has recently changed?

This topic discusses which documents a client should request from their candidate to confirm the candidate's identity for a DBS check.

For example, if the candidate's name has recently changed (i.e., if the candidate has recently got married, but has not changed their name on their documents as yet).

We call this process 'Manual Route'—the manual checking of identification to make sure it matches and is original and current.

If the candidate recently changed their name, and the name change isn't yet reflected on all their documents, the client can still manually verify their identity by requesting the following documents.

  1. A primary identity document (i.e. passport or driving licence) in the candidate's previous name.
  2. An additional document proving the name change (i.e., marriage certificate).
  3. Any additional document as requested by the level of the DBS check (i.e. bank statement, utility bill, P45, etc. in both previous and current names).

If you have issues with this process, please contact us via Live Chat, or call us on +44 (0) 1234 339 350. Monday to Friday, 8.30am-5.30pm.
