Why did my candidate not get asked to upload a proof of address document for UK Digital Identity (Basic) checks?

This article will help you understand why your candidate has not been asked to upload a proof of address document for Verifile's UK Digital Identity (Basic) check.

For Basic DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) checks in the UK, the Digital Identity process includes the following steps:

  • Candidates must provide proof of identity
  • Completing a facial scan
  • Manually entering their address details (instead of uploading a proof of address document).

Please note that the DBS has approved this method as an acceptable way to verify identity online.

Our most recent DBS audit reviewed orders completed by Verifile, all of which used Yoti's verification without a proof of address document. These passed the audit as valid and correct.

Once these steps are completed, Yoti uses address data from Experian (for UK addresses) and Aristotle (for international addresses) to verify the candidate's address.

If the address can be confirmed online, the Digital Identity check will pass and the UK Criminal Record check will proceed.

If online address verification fails, the Digital Identity check will not pass, and the UK Criminal Record check will enter a "Waiting for Client to Confirm ID" status.

At this point, you'd be required to complete a manual identity check and visibly see both a proof of identity and proof of address document.
